Bring the body into therapy.

The mind-body connection.

Western psychology is pretty heady.

With my yoga background, many clients ask for a more body-based approach to therapy. We know that trauma is stored in the body and that trauma also affects our ability to sense and feel what is going on in the body. In EMDR therapy, we’ll work with body sensations as much as we work with thoughts/beliefs, feelings, and behaviors.

Hi, I’m Erin Newman.

I bring over 20 years of clinical experience to my work. And maybe more importantly, I bring myself, an imperfect human, and my lived experience.

I value transparency and collaboration in the therapeutic relationship. I often “talk out loud” and let you know my thinking; you will always be an active participant in the process. If I make a suggestion, it’s something I have tried or done myself. I think it’s really important to “walk the walk.” I can be a guide, but you always know what is best for you.

A bit about me

After living in New England (Boston then Providence) for nearly 30 years, I have happily returned to my hometown of East Aurora, NY.

I love that my work challenges me to learn and grow as a person and a therapist. I’m passionate about teaching yoga to people in recovery from addiction.

In my time outside of work you can find me at the beach (now Lake Erie!), on my paddle board, hiking with my dog in the woods (scroll down to see her below!), listening to music, and spending time with my husband, family and friends.

Background and Training

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in MA, NY, and RI. I am a licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC-1) in MA. This means I can provide assessments to satisfy requirements of the court or college dean’s office.

I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200 hr). I hold space as a Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR) facilitator. I am also an EMDR Certified Therapist and certified Cognitive Processing Therapy provider.

I have been practicing social work in various settings since 1998. I gained much of my training and expertise in addiction and trauma at Massachusetts General Hospital. I have been in private practice full time since 2016.

Areas of Interest/Expertise: Trauma, Anxiety, Addiction, being affected by someone else’s addictive behaviors.
